Alicia Antwine
I love me some me!
I love me some me!
The path I carved.
Some of my favorite quotes:
~ “Walk like you got three thousand ancestors behind you” ~
~ “I’m Akward, and I’m Black, and that’s fine” ~ (Issa Rae - Insecure)
~ “I live everyday like there’s no tomorrow, so that when my number's up, I can check out with no regrets!” ~ (mirko - MHA)
Personal statement
Known professionally as Alicia Antwine and also recognized as Alicia-Maria, I am a multidisciplinary performer and neurodivergent artist grounded in curiosity, adaptability, and storytelling. As a proud African American Black woman, I am deeply committed to uplifting Black artists and Black storytelling while creating work that values honesty, vulnerability, and human connection.
My artistic foundation has been shaped through years of training IN dance, basketball, and Muay Thai kickboxing. Each discipline has shaped how I move through the world physically, mentally, and creatively. I am especially interested in how the body carries memory, and how performance can transcend language and cultural boundaries.
As an artist with dyslexia, language has become my favorite challenge. It's the thing that artistically sparks me. Difficult text is something I continually return to with persistence and joy. Rather than avoiding obstacles, I transform my “Weakness” into discovery and PLAY. This resilience has become central to both my artistic process and identity as a performer.
In 2025, I joined the One Year Lease company, participating in workshops in New York City and India while performing in India, Japan, and Greece. These experiences strengthened my passion for international theatre and reinforced my belief that performance can connect people across borders and cultures.
I will soon graduate from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where I also trained abroad at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and NYU Berlin. During these experiences, I worked with faculty from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Berlin University of the Arts, and the internationally acclaimed Schaubühne.
Outside of theatre, I am inspired by Anime and Animated storytelling. One of my favorite films, In This Corner of the World, reminds me that small, fleeting moments often carry immense emotional weight, and when you find that small pocket of joy, carry it far. That awareness continues to guide my work as an artist and storyteller.
Truest love,
Alicia Antwine
