but i grew up on the phrase
You is kind.
you is smart.
you is important.
My writing is an exploration of the black girls who have been seen as “Too Much” “The Emotional type” My cultivates a call to action to put some respect on the emotional Black girl name.

Crybaby
Cry. Baby.
She don’t mean to cry.
She just do.
She don’t mean to be emotional.
She just is.She hides for you
because she values what you preach.
She is filled with passion and determination,
Yet her tears become a misinterpretation.She lives to prove
that she can change for you
Change so they don’t see her vulnerability.
Change so they don’t mistake her eagerness for pity.
Change so they don’t exterminate their faith in her abilities.She is now eighteen.
Find acceptance that
crying is not a sign of weakness,
but a sign of strength.She will not hide for you.
She will show her emotional truth.
She will CRY.Yet
no one ever really cares
or understands
the tears that a Crybaby cries.
